A mod has now made it possible for Cyberpunk 2077 players to pet the stray cat that can be adopted by protagonist V. There are many notable games out there for animals lovers, but even titles that don’t focus on furry creatures may still feature them throughout. CD Projekt Red’s open-world sci-fi release actually seemed to go the opposite route by not featuring pets or other non-human creatures in Night City, save for the aforementioned feline.
Despite the game not really having any animals, with the lore saying that sightings are rare after an epidemic left the city with no birds, rats, or other creatures, Cyberpunk 2077 is still proving popular. After a very shaky launch in the tail end of 2020, the studio has been working diligently to patch out the laundry list of glitches that plagued the title and sullied the reputation of CDPR. Nowadays, the dystopian RPG is in a much better state. However, players still can’t pet the cat.
Until now, that is. Thanks to modder Deceptious, fans now have the ability to pet the stray cat in Cyberpunk 2077. A couple of videos show the mod in action, with V “fussing” the furry animal, called Nibbles, before getting into the shower and then giving it a proper stroke after getting out again. When exiting the shower, the cat will be sitting calmly watching the holo-ads, and if the player uses the wardrobe in the apartment, she will be lying in the laundry basket. The only caveat is that V can’t pet Nibbles if the feline is asleep.
Some may be curious about how it’s even possible to adopt a pet in the game, as finding Nibbles the cat in Cyberpunk 2077 can be quite rare. As previously mentioned, most animals are not really present in the city. However, there are some cats wandering about. By placing a bowl of cat food near V’s apartment, it is possible to entice Nibbles into the abode. This means the player has effectively adopted the animal, and with Deceptious’ mod, actually interacting and petting it becomes an option.
Cyberpunk 2077 is not the only game to include this feature, thanks to the modding community, as it’s also possible to pet the dogs in games like Skyrim. It really raises the question of why some developers include animals in their titles but don’t include the option to stroke them. There are probably valid reasons, but at least animal loving modders are coming to the rescue.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
