Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players are disappointed in the Crossbow, complaining it is underpowered and calling on Raven Software to buff the weapon.
Players are unsatisfied with Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s new Crossbow weapon. While a fan favorite from the original game, the sequel’s version is significantly less powerful than its predecessor, much to Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players’ annoyance.
Launched in November 2022, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is Activision, Raven Software, and Infinity Ward’s second installment in the free-to-play battle royale series. While Warzone 2 was released as part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it’s a standalone experience that does not require the main game to play. Warzone 2 contains more content than its predecessor, in addition to a redesigned Gulag system and introducing a more significant number of AI-controlled enemies. The game saw “generally favorable” reviews according to aggregate site Metacritic, scoring 80 on PC and 79 on PS5.
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 launched last month, bringing back the previous game’s popular Crossbow weapon. However, fans were disappointed that the Crossbow is no longer a one-hit kill, as it was in the original Call of Duty: Warzone. It is not the only returning weapon to receive a nerf in Call of Duty: Warzone 2, nor is this the first time that Raven Software nerfed the Crossbow in particular. However, many fans were unhappy with the change, especially given the effort it takes to unlock Warzone 2‘s Crossbow.
Developers first implemented the Crossbow as a one-shot kill weapon in the first Call of Duty: Warzone. However, Raven Software quickly realized this was overpowered and changed it so that the Crossbow’s bolts instead put targets in a Downed state. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 nerfs the weapon further so that it now takes two shots to Down a target. This appears to be part of Raven Software’s conscious decision not to include one-hit weapons in the game. Headshots are still instantly lethal but extremely difficult, given that arrows suffer from a much more extreme drop-off than other weapons.
While this may make sense from the perspective of Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s developers, fans are unhappy with the change. As a Warzone 2 player on Reddit pointed out, the Crossbow is already a single-shot weapon with a three-second reload time. Requiring two shots to Down an opponent makes the weapon far less useful than it used to be, especially given the game’s current meta. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 fans are therefore calling on Raven Software to revert the Crossbow back to how it was in the previous game.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and, Xbox Series X/S
